HI,
i AM TH EGUY W/ TH E1981 F 150 INLINE 6 4 SPEED MANUAL (ON THE FLOOR) 2 PART TRANNY W/ BELLHOUSING. I am trying to cahnge rear main seal. Here is the progress report. I have drive shaft off. I have the tranny off ( yeah !!!) There appears to be a cover over the flywheel attached w/ 4 bolts . Is this correct? What should I do? Remove 4 bolts pull off flywhee and get at rear main? Also, there is thick grease on the axle where the drive shaft goes. Is this dirreretial grease? What doe sthe differential do and how do i fix the seal. Also, if the seal on the driveshaft that meets the tranny (oil housing?? ) is soft and has some leaks , is it tough to replace?
