94 transfer case noise

94 transfer case noise
We bought my son a 4x4 94 bronco and it is his first vehicle.
After a few off roading excursions his transmission was making some grinding / whining noises.
After checking things out and with some inspections, we believe the problem centers around the trans converter. New to the 4x4 world and with limited knowledge about transmission and transfer cases but do have sound mechanical skills (just can’t name all the parts), how do we find out our transfer case type?
I read somewhere you can find a factory list of what was installed on the vehicle? Could there be a factory list hidden some where in the bronco?
I do know we have an ED40 transmission.
We are thinking about tearing down the transfer case.
What would be a reasonable price to have this done by a shop?
