Missing Thread on Tailgate Handle

Why was my thread on the tailgate handle question deleted? If it was because I mentioned a name of another company that sells trucks well I just read another thread that had the same company mentioned.

And is it the practice of the admin. of deleting threads without emailing or private messaging the thread owner of it?

Well this time I will try to keep it short. My tailgate is a pain to open. You really have to pull up the handle to disengage the latches on the sides. After removing the handle and latches I have decided the problem is in the handle. It came from that jcxxx catalog and my question is if I buy another from a more reputable truck company will the handle be the same or better. In other words is there handles out there that have bushings and are better metal than the one I have now. Has anyone else bought a handle and is it still working good two years later?

Thanks.

I don't know what handle you have, but I would venture to say that you need to adjust the rods so that you don't have to put so much pressure on the handle for it to open. Try bending the rods slightly if you agree that this might be the problem. If the handle appears to be functioning correctly than the rods definitely need adjusting.

Is anything rusted up?? Would a little WD40 or some grease help things out??

No idea on the first question .

Perhaps it was a mistake.

The person who sold me my '79 F150 last week made a pretty big deal about how hard the tailgate was to get open, so it was on my list of things to look into. Yesterday I sprayed the latches good, plus as much of the interior mechanism as I could reach with a good penetrating fluid---not even a lubricant. Now it opens like new. I assume you started with this step, but just in case, hey, you might get lucky like me.

Too bad my seller didn't mention the 3 holes in the gas tank...

I can see ALL of your posts and there is no tailgate handle thread or post missing. Perhaps you posted on another site? We did suffer a server crash last week which could have caused a few posts to disappear (I lost one myself). When that happens the post is usually not displayed and the system freezes, -fairly obvious.

If you have site administration questions please use the feedback forum.

tailgate handle quality

I'm sure some WD40 would help but not for very long. The handle has some minimal rust but back to my original question...did or does a good quality handle that you can buy now have bushings between the moveable handle and its back plate? The reason mine is so hard to move is it is metal against metal and the tiny bit of rust is why it is so hard to pull up.

I am ready to order another one but don't see the point if the new one from someplace on this site is going to be the same quality as the one I ordered two years ago.

Has anyone ordered one recently or still have one they can look at to answer my question. Thanks a lot for the help.

Lubrication of linkages:

There is a product available at Motorcycle shop's ,it is Chain Lube in a spray can.

This works very well for door handle & tail gate handle lubrication.
At least this way you are lubricating instead of removing an oily film with WD40.
