rearend change

Hello everyone
First off I'm new here and this is my first post.
I have an 87 F-150 2wd Reg Cab Long Bed
Don't hate me but my daily driver is a
96 Dodge Ram 2500HD 4x4 Extended Cab Longbed
I also Have an 80 GMC 20 2wd

My deal is the brackets that hold the leafsprings onto the F-150 are rusted pretty bad and I was told if I try hauling anything that they'll break. I was also told that this is a common problem in Fords. Well I am thinking of parting out the GMC. Though I thought I could fix my problem with putting the rearend and leafsprings from it into the Ford. I think this will make it a better truck for me too. I have never owned anything smaller then a 3/4 ton except this Ford. Has anyone tried this before and maybe can warn me of what I am getting myself into before I do it. I know I can make it work. I would just like an idea of how much work it will be before I start. I would like to make this my daily truck but it has to be able to haul a load before it much good to me.

Thank You All for any help and your time.

Changing the axle and springs isn't going to solve your rusted spring hangar problem... Check with Ford to see if the part is available (I think it is), then grind off the rivets holdin the old ones on, punch out the rest of the rivet with an air chisel, and bolt on the new hangars with grade 8 bolts.

Yeah, I am going to use the hangers off the GMC too. The thing is I figured that I might as well beef it up while I have it apart and I have that 3/4 ton that I'm going to start scraping anyways. I went out and measured it all today and the leaf springs are the same length and width on both trucks so I am going to at least change those. The problem with the axle it I don't think I can safely put the Ford wheel assembly on the GMC axle and I don't really want two different spares. Anyways the main thing I need to know is if I do use this rearend how hard is it going to be to get it to work with the driveshaft?
Thanks for the reply!<O
