I have a 1993 F-150, 2WD, standard cab, long bed, 5.8 351W EFI. I've pretty much got the exterior up to top shape (new paint job, 31 A/T tires, 2" leveling kit).
I'm ready to start performance. I've put a K&N filter in the air box. I've just run dual Flowmaster 40 series mufflers through 3" pipe all the way back. I've also put on shorty headers and accel wires and distributor cap. I want to do some more performance upgrades. I've thought about either a new TB or TB spacer, as well as an aftermarket ignition box (maybe even a new cam, even though i heard they're not as easily replaced). My first question is whether a new ignition box would be the way to go, and if i should upgrade the distributor as well? My second question is any input on what would give me better performance, without eating my wallet up? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Look at the post post titled "rocker arms and intake spacer" Fastvert's reply should shed some light on the spacer, and I believe the stock tb, and intakes flow very well, and the engine should make loads of horsepower before needing a bigger one. People say the ignition boxes work well, in my opinion a bit pricey for the low horsepower increase. For about the same price maybe more you can get a good solid increase by using a computer chip. Motorhaven sells them, and you might want one custom burned, as I was told any air flow modification even headers can throw off the computer if it's a speed density?, if it's Mass air, then your okay. I was also reading an interesting article on a kit from Crane Cams? which includes timing adjuster springs to replace the stock springs in your distributor to advance the timing quicker, or retard if you need. That would be a much cheaper alternative to replacing the distributor.

Reason: mispelled Motorhaven
rdneckdeluxe, I've got a '92 302 and it is Speed Density. The MAS system has a mass air sensor mounted between the TB and the air cleaner (I think it is actually bolted to air box?)

95 was the first 5.8 mass air equipped truck. I would start with gears, look into some 4.10's. the tb spacers are better paperweights then anything. stick with stock ignition for now but get a good coil. if you can , get a lightning gt40 upper/lower intake and of course some headers but dont skimp on these cause youll fight leaks. then look into cams. if you stay speed density a good cam would be 35-255-5 its computer friendly but will add good gains. this would all be a good start.
