My father-in-law has a '01 Expedition 4.6L and mother-in-law has an '00 Explorer EB 5.0L. Both vehicles are throwing the 402 code. Is replacing the EGR valve the answer or should I be looking elsewhere?
code does indicate excessive egr flow, you could remove the valve and spray wd-40 or such through the valve pindle,if the valve is stuck open the fluid will go on through.could be a bad vacuum regulator sol.or a bad dpfe sensoregr valve probally most likley.hope this helps
A defective EGR with a P0402 excessive air flow at idle, would be demonstrated by rough idling. EGR defects are extremely rare.
If there are no driveability problems, then the problem is probably caused by a defective differential pressure sensor. They are rather notorious for failure, and will toss out the same DTC.
