Question horsepower

I am considering buying a 2002 lightning, but some of the research I have done lists the 2002 horsepower at 340 vs 380 in 2001 and 2004. Is this true that there is only 340 horsepower, and secondly can you tell the difference with the 40 less horses?

Thans for the help..

I'm looking at an '02 myself. Went down to the guy's house and drove it yesterday......man what an awsome machine!! The best part is the truck has only 3,000 miles on it and has been very well maintained.

Anyway...everything I've seen on the '01 to '04 trucks has stated 380 hp.

The 02 is 380-385hp and about 420ft-lbs of torque. They really move, my boss has one.

Mistaken for the 02 Harley Charger!

The 02 Harley was the first HD to be supercharged at 340. They had a bigger pulley on the charger, ie: 40 hp less. When you see this L check the supercharger, if it is black it is the 02harley charger. The Lighting chargers are
grey & have SVT stamped on the front plate & with the smaller pulley. (piston rings are different too).

The 00, & 01 HD's had 275hp stock, & the owners wanted more. Ford SC the 5.4L, less 40hp as not to **** off the L owners. So thats where your RD may have run across the 340hp figure.

Thanks for the info. The 2002 does have 380 hp. I drove one yesterday with 6000 miles (asking $26,000 from a dealer). It drove like s*#t. Poor acceleration, did not shift well and very loose steering. I have driven others, and this did not compare. I'll keep on looking, because I know what I want (just glad this was not the forst lightning I drove).

Keep looking man, the first one I looked at was at a dealer up the road. 2001 with 21,xxx miles on it. Loved the red color but when I car faxed it came back with 6 different owners!! I figured either something was wrong with it or it had been repo'ed a few times. Either way I didn't want to find out the hard way.
Anywoo...took delivery of my 2002 on Friday night. True Blue with about 3200 miles on the clock. At 26k even I feel I got a pretty decent deal. I do feel kinda bad for the guy as he really did not want to get rid of the truck. I know I never will!

Talking Just purchased.

I picked up my 03 Lightning with 162 miles for 26K. They have another one (red) in stock. I ended up driving to IL to pick it up, but I am sure they would give you the same deal. The only bad thing about the red one was that some nimrod stole the soft toneu cover off of it in the dealers lot. If you are interested email me, and I will give you the info.
