Egr Valve Trouble

I have a 2002 f-150 with a 4.6 V8. 4WD,auto. My service engene soon light came on the day before we left for vacation. I had a guy use a code reader and he said that the EGR valve was bad. My question is 1. is it covered under the emissions warranty, and 2. where is it on the motor and how hard is it to replace? OH , the truck has 42,000 miles on it. Thanks for any help.

If it is the EGR valve, it should be covered under the emissions warranty.
Sometimes it is the sensor itself that goes bad. I don't know if it is covered or not.

Generally the emissions parts are covered under Federal law, and extend beyond Ford's athetic 3yr/36K mile warranty. For the last Dodge I had I believe that number was 50,000 miles. I'm not sure where it is on your engine but it will be something that ties some portion of routed exhaust gas back to the intake. The valvle will likely be controlled by a vacuum line. Good luck.
