Overdrive issues please help
Hi everybody,
I have an 84' f150 regular cab w/a 300. I have had the truck for almost a year and I love it. When I first got the truck everything went smoothly, about 6weeks ago the truck started to decide when it did and did,t want to go into
overdrive.
Then a week or so after that when it was supposed to go into overdrive the tranny would just start whining instead. It is a aod tranny
and a friend of mine happened to have one rebuilt for a project he never completed so I bought the re-built transmission from him. Now, it won't go into overdrive at all, so I am at a top speed of 40 MPH and have no clue why my truck won't shift. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Does the trans shift 1-2-3? If so I'd say that you need to have your Throttle Valve Cable adjusted by a pro trans mechanic. Those things are so sensitive sometimes its practically impossible to adjust them by yourself with good results.
I toasted an AOD behind my old six in about 5 minutes from an inproperly adjusted TV cable.
I don't think this is the issue with yours, but do not drive it very far, it could very well damage the trans beyond repair.
