Hi all. I am a forigerner in this forum ive got a 66 F-100. Anyways I was lookin around at trucks today and I saw a 59 F-100 long bed, 292 V8 recently rebuilt but it had oil leaks. Gauges were dead. The body was in great shape and the paint was also very good. The interior needed some work also. The seller wanted 3 grand for it and I thought that it was too much for the amount of work it needed. Had plenty of rust too. What do yall think? Was this a reasonalbe price for the truck? Oh yeah and the windows were all broken. It was a 3 on the tree and had plenty of power and shifted okay yet it wasant pefect I think the steering needs some work too.
Judging by what you gave us, It sounds like a $500- $1500 truck to me. Of course if it was a short bed and didn't have any rust $3000 would then sound okay. Let him wait a couple months, then show up with trailer and cash in hand, seeing all the money really moves some people. There are lots of these trucks out there, keep looking. -4speed
I'll agree with 4 speed on this. The 59 isn't as highly sought after as the 56 and earlier trucks. You can buy almost any part for the trucks and restore to the 9's. I would suggest you offer about $1300 and go to a max of about $1600. The rebuilt 292 would cost about $800 to rebuild. How bad are the oil leaks? Could be as simple as correctly torqueing some bolts or as much as replacing gaskets. Are you sure the oil leak isn't coming from a road draft tube?
If the trucks been sitting awhile, the rear rope seal dries out. When I bought mine, the oil filter was the culprit. Chances are the oil leak is fixible for cheap.
Now is the truck a custom cab(would have stainless trim around windsheild)?
Is the truck a small window, or the huge wrap around?
As far as rust goes, check the lower rear section of the front fenders, the cab mounts(steel on the under side of the front of cab that forms a right triangle), cab corners, step plates inside the cab, door hindge area, above windsheild inside of cab, whole drip rail assembly, front inside of the bed, rear lower corners of bed, tailgate.
Check the wirring, to make sure it hasn't been hacked to death. These are the questions I ask myself when looking at 57-60's. They are great trucks and y blocks are tough motors. -4speed
