I did a search and there's lots of talk about the Heartthrob mufflers, but not a lot of first hand information. I'm wondering how the sound stacks up against a glass pack? Since they're a type of turbo muffler, I'd expect them to be slightly quieter than the run-of-the-mill glass pack???
Thanks for the reply, 351M. That's about what I figured. I have a Thrush turbo on my Bronco that's on it's last legs, and the Heartthrob intrigued me because of the smaller size and glasspack shape. Flowmaster makes a "Hushpower" thats a similiar shape but it's more expensive........
Oh now I remember the heart throb is the same as a sweettalker of a Flo pro Baffle Pack, go to www flowpro.com and have a look, the sound depends on the size (length and diam) A 351M ford I know of had some and it was relatively quiet, I put it on my 2.8 powered chev celebrity and it was as loud as my glasspack that was on the car, put 2 of 'em on my little 4 cyl Lada (1 per 2 cyl) and it was quiet yet the same setup with 2 glasspacks were insanely loud. these were about 12 -16"long and 2"in/out and they were about 6" dia. cases. I think thge heartthrobs and sweettalkers are glasspacked while the flo pros aren't.
Yes, the Flo-Pro Bafflepack looks exactly like the Heartthrob. I wouldn't be surprised if one company makes this muffler type and it's sold under several brand names...?
Thanks for the sound comparisons, 351M; that's what I was looking for. It's strange that the Celebrity was loud, yet the Lada was quiet...? Could you have possibly reversed the flow on the Celebrity? I noticed that the FloPros have louvered tubes inside, (where most oval turbos have solid tubes). I'd think the louvers would give better flow, and maybe affect how they sound.
I've about decided to try one of these on my 351M Bronco, since you said they were relatively quiet on one. I don't want a lot of noise, just a low rumble that sounds good.
I have no Idea who makes sweettalkers but I can try to find out tomorrow. The Baffle packs like these have no direction. I also just noticed that the stack on our tractor is a baffle pack, it is only a 4 cyl diesel but with the muffler looking exactly like a 24" glasspack it has a nice sound to it, deep when under throttle but gets a bit loud when you work it. It is one of them mufflers that you have to try to get an idea of what it will sound like, the same muffler can sound alot different on different engines. My Superturbo and my Raptor have perftubes in them. The Thrush turbo is basically the same as the Superturbo minus the flow directors.
I have a heartthrob system on my truck('79 F150 400 4bbl) and they actually make a glasspack muffler It is really loud and adds to the truck. I love it and it gets me a lot of looks. is the heartthrob that you guyz R talkin about a spiral flow??
No I think it is a Baffle Pack design, www.flopro.com and click on the baffle packs link, they should be designed like that.
Oh and how do you like that 400 with a 4bbl? Have you converted it or was it always a 4 bbl? Just thought I'd ask because my buddy pulled a 400 2bbl out of a 78 T-bird and we stuffed it into an 84 F250, man can that truck go, it will wrap the spedo all the way around and back to the 40Km/H mark and it is still pulling strong. That was as fast as we wanted to go in an ex mill yard truck that we had never driven before, that and we were on a dirt road. LOL.
