Have a 92 F-150 V8 Super Cab Short bed. The check engine light comes on usually after 20 min of driving in warmer weather. I looking to get a meter to check the codes. Question is what kind of meter do i need? as for the conections that is. Thanks
I have posted a thread earlier and everybody states that i can do it without a meter. Im always afraid that I wil short something out. I'm money wise in a bind right now and would rather invest in a meter that I could use down the road rather then have a shop trace out what i I shorted out.
my truck hesatates when i take off from a stop, so my question is, can you set a code without the check engine light on. i dont think you can but i wanted to double check with you guys
Yeah, fordfuelinjection is a good site for what you are wanting. All a code reader is count the CEL blinks for you and spit out a code. I tried with my truck, but then realized that it wouldn't work because it is a 96 and was regulated to have an OBD-II system in it. However, your 92 should not be this way, and you can simply pull the codes by gettin comfortable in your drivers seat and counting some flashin lights.
My check engine light goes on intermittently, and at various speeds, accelerating, deaccelerating, coasting, etc. Whaaaa, I have a Ford code reader and can't pull codes from the damn computer! No codes with engine off or on. The truck really spits out a bunch of water when cold idling. The truck sat all winter since last fall, and I just put new gas in not that long ago. I suspect maybe water in the fuel. But it runs fine when warm. This F150 has a 5.8L in it, and the temp when warm, is right in the middle. My '93 F250 diesel of course runs way cool, so not used to where these gas-mobiles should run temp wise. Any suggestions on either topic? THanks, Dave.
