fuel pump question

While im at it, I have another question. All my manuals show a carburated 460 to have a block mounted mechanical pump and injected models to have a possible frame rail pump, but definatly one in each tank. My 83 F250 has a frame mounted pump only(electric type). anyone have any specs on what good output pressure should be be feed this hungry beast.

If my memory serves, I think it should only be about 7 psi with a carb, any more than that and the carb would flood out.

The electric is either an aftermarket pump or [most likely] the 460 "hot fuel option". The hot fuel option uses a bypass regulator to keep the fuel cool by pumping it back into the tank to cool it off. probably around 5-6 psi or so.

From the research I've done I would vote aftermarket if it has a frame mounted electric pump. I believe all the "hot fuel option" 83-89 460's had in-tank elect. pumps and a vapor seperator with a return line back to the tank.

Do a search on "hot fuel option" for more specifics.

Yeah it does have a return from the pump now that I think of it. and its looks pretty much factory, theres a factory wiring harness and plug to it.
