Towing - 97 Sport 4WD OHV

I'd like to set my 97 sport up for towing a snowmobile trailer in the class 3 range. I've heard that because of the automatic 4WD system this isn't as simple as bolting on a hitch and heading out. Does anyone if any specific modifications (chip etc) are needing to tow with this vehicle? Also, anyone with towing experience in a sport - any advice for suspension etc?

Thanks

Refer to your owners manual for towing with your Explorer. As long as the weight of the towed load is less than the weight of the towing vehicle, you should be ok. The manual will give you recommended hitch, load, etc for your specific engine, axle and transmission, based on 2 door, 4 door, 2WD, 4WD, etc.

If you don't already have one, get a wiring harness kit from Ford. It will make life much simpler in hooking up the trailer lights, and provide a relay to handle the extra power needed in case you want to use electric brakes.
