tell me what you think of this. Yesterday I filled my fuel tank, when I drove away the guage still read empty. This morning I drove to the fire station and the gauge read fuel, no problems. As I was waiting for the Egt's to drop to 300 I hear the warning bell from the dash, I look down and the fuel light is on and the gauge us dropped to the bottom????? . The dealership said it sounds like the sending unit is bad, still under warranty but, I have to run the fuel out or close too, before they can pull it and fix it. What do you all think. Sending unit? Or just something else?
that is what I figured too. I plugged in the predator and it did not show a code, But the fuel gauge went right to the full mark as soon as I turned the key on. S iam wondering if maybe it is just a fluk thing or if the sending unit is failing and works sometimes and sometimes not. Well at least it won't cost me anything but time without my baby.
The same thing happend to me me last week. I let the truck go down to empty (below empty) hey my wife took all my money so I could not afford fuel I filled it up and the gauge was at full, shut it down then went to start the following morning and it was at DEAD E! drove it down the road and she went back to normal...sounds like the classic ford sending unit problem to me! I have a 96 bronco with 57000 on the clock at around a half of tank she stats reading like she's full to the brim! Welcome to the future boys
I guess Ford just has a problem with their fuel gauge sender units. I have a 99.5 PSD with 125,000 miles. I bought it used and had only had it about 2 month when I ran out of fuel on a cold December day just before Christmas with the fuel gauge setting on 1/4 of a tank. I now use my trip meter to tell me how much fuel I've used. I know I get around 14 to 15 mpg, have a 29 gallon tank and if I drive around 300 miles before I fuel up I will not run out of diesel again. I usually put in around 20 gallons. I have noticed that my fuel gauge isn't anywhere near accurate enought to use for fuel levels.
