Took my 7.3 to Ford today, they said I need a speed sensor and a cam sensor. Best place to buy? And of course, how can I replace them myself? They wanted $545 for the cam and $195 for the speed sensor. Sounds a littel steep to me! Help!!
PUHLEASE... Call your friendly local International dealer and ask for the CAMP sensor. About $100 including tax. There are two different ones; you need your engine number to verify which one is correct. My early '99 (built 4/98)took the updated "newer" version, maybe you can work with that. As for the speedsensor, I replaced it but I know it didn't cost that much at the Ford stealership, more like $20.80 as I was just quoted a minute ago.....
Speed sensor on top of the rear differential took me 5 minutes with the right socket. Camp sensor, remove the belt to bet better access, disconnect batteries (just in case), 10mm socket and abouit a 2-3 inch extension would do great. Be sure to keep the socket straight on because it's probably in there well and takes a bit to get loose, you don't want to strip it. Reverse install's a piece o' cake. Hope this helps.
