well the problem is that it wont stop starting it has had this problem for a while now (randomly happening) to further explain the starter is locked on until the battery dies even when the key is removed
so far i have replaced the starter twice now it is a brand new duralast gold series and as of last nite have replaced solenoid twice and so now i think its pretty unlikely to be either of these parts
im wondering if the push button start switch is to blame? ignition module?
any help would be appreciated i have searched ALOT but no one else seems to have this problem
Sorry Buddy I don't know what a push button starter switch is. Is this something you put in? I've got an 87 351 and a 95 302, never seen a push button switch.
well i guess the dude who had it before put it in but its just what it said push button start right there in the dash
thats the only way to crank it (unless jump the solenoid)
sounds like the aftermarket switch is sticking and keeping the starter turning after you release it. when you say that you remove the key and it still stays cranking it does not keep running also. can you remove the switch and hold it in your hand? if so do this and fire the engine up and remove one of the wires to the switch and see if this stops the starter from cranking. dont know what kind of a switch was installed but it sounds like it cant hold the current that it is switch ing and is welding the contacters closed.
hmmm well i thought that might be it so i got a new one but the switch was made for that purpose it holds 15 amps i got a new switch but this one only holds 15 amps as well i think i will "open" the old switch up and look for burned? spot i guess do you think it would be obvious if it had been overloaded with to much current
i hope so but it could still be the module and that worries me with all the heat thats gone through it that even if it didnt start the problem it could now be one its a $30 part at autozone so im considering doing it anyways or atleast getting one to put in the truck if i run into this problem again
someone in the electrical forum told me to switch the wires on the solenoid (so that current would run through backwards) because some aftermarket solenoids have problems if i do this would i need to move the ignition wire to the opposite termial to I to S or maybe S to I i cant remember how it is now just opposite of what it is now??
