Shifting problems

The truck now, intermintantly but more so than not, has a problem shifting into overdrive. when i get upto speed where the smooth shift into overdrive should occur the trans stays in 3rd. I usually have to force it to kick into o.d. by speeding up or flooring it to get the rpms up and then let off the pedal. This usually does the trick. I took the truck to the trans place who replaced the trans 1 1/2 years ago and 40k miles and they said "all the gears are there" it seems to be an engine problem. They put a vacum gauge on it and said that it was eratic is the sense that it indicated higher than normal at the high end of the specs and lower than normal on the low end. My mechanic says the vacum system is working properly and no indications come up on the computer check. Any help would make a big difference. the truck now has 140,000 miles and is otherwise running great! Thanks in advance!
