wow...you typed each word with capital letters, how long did that take you? anyway i had a problem like this a little while ago with my 2000 XLT 4.0 and all i did was change the ATF fluid with the mobil1 synthetic ATF mercon substitute (had the ford dealer find me that). it works like a charm
Mobil 1 is not rated for Mercon V. If you have the five speed it requires Mercon V and not Mercon. If your '99 XLT 4.0 SHOC has the 5R55E transmission ("D" code on driver's door sticker under "TR") like my '99 XLT 4.0 SHOC 4WD does, then it requires Mercon V.
I used Valvoline's synthetic blend in mine because Amsoil was too expensive.
As far as my capital letters go I am having a glitch with my mircocrapword and apparently affects typing on forums and chats. Anybody know a forum for my broken software now that I know where one for my broken truck is at.
Took the "BURDEN" today to a friends trans shop. Guy told me he has fixed this type of problem a lot recently. Said one or more of the switchs that control the valve body inside the transmission isn't within range on voltage and a scan picked it up. Said it will cost me $115 including a filter change, fluid change, and the switch its self. The dealer already told me something similiar to this but when they said $600 I no longer wanted to believe them(I'm cheap), but they wanted to replace the entire valve body. This local guy said he would be his shop that the one possible to switches fixes the problems and that it would not need a whole new valve body. Transmission has no other side affects and shifts with the shift lever.
