overdrive conversion

Does anyone know how to proceed putting an overdrive trans out of a 53 Ford car into a 50 F1. Problems I'm wondering about include 1)What do do for a shifter since the car is column shift and I want to retain the original floor shift 2)Any problems with speedometer hookup and calibration 3)mounting it 4)getting away from the solenoids and other electrical components 5)anything else tricky. Thanks

There are floor shifter kits for 3 speed transmissions, like from Indy. The electrical stuff is mostly there to automatically kick the O/D out when you floor the gas for passing. Otherwise, I think you can run it without most of the wiring; I'd have to look it up to be sure, though. It's not that complicated, so if you can scrounge all the wiring stuff (the relay, kickdown switch, solenoid, and governor), why not use it?
