I've replaced many rotors, many times, on various vehivcles but never a Ranger. Anything I should keep in mind before I dig-in? Any specials tools I might need? Anything you have come across that you thought "gee, I wish I knew that..." Thanks.
if youve done brakes before, you shouldnt have any trouble. I just did mine for the first time on a ranger and it took about 30 min. Good luck to you. I belive besides your normal 12mm wrenches and what not, you might need a breaker bar, probably not though.
I have a 2000 3.0 4x4 and I didnt have to. There is just a bracket that the caliper bolts onto that needs to come off in order to slide the rotor off. That is what you might need the breaker bar on.
i have a 98 4x4 and when i replaced the brake pads and turned the rotors i had a dog of a time getting the front rotors off the hub. finally got them off with a big hammer--used a block of wood so as not to ding my rotors. for a while i thought the rotors were an intergral part of the hub.
after removing and turning the rotors i used a wheel on my drill and cleaned the hub od and sanded the rotor id. haven't had a reason to go back but hope cleaning and lubing the fit may make it easier next time.
Always, Always, Always, clean and repack wheel brg's. You can save the seals if your gentile, but for the extra 20min it takes it will save the brgs in the long run. If you keep fresh grease in them you should never have to replace them.
