Max AC problem

Max AC problem
1997 F-250 Heavy Duty CC AC works great and really cold. only problem is when i set it on max and high fan. the ac switches to the defroster and blows only through the defroster. i found a small vaccum line next to the blower motor housing which is weather cracked. it comes through the firewall and connects to some type of valve i guess you would call it. any thoughts on whether this could be the problem and what is the best way to change the line out. thanks in advance

Probably is the problem, or most of it. If the line to the fresh air door is cracked, when you throw it to max, it could drop the vacuum in the HVAC controls enough to allow it to go to the default defrost mode.

where does that line come from??? I see one end but then the line is taped into a bundle of wires and passes through the firewall. Ill look sometime and see if i can replace the line.
