My truck (99 PSD) has stalled out a few times. It starts right back up and when it stalls it jsut dies, not like it is choking out or something. I am still in the process of troubleshooting it. I have noticed that it occures when I have just towed. (Like I pull my boat out of the water, put it in park, and let it idle)
I just had to have a new fuel pump put on and I just cleaned the air filter(K&N). I think it may be the CAM sensor but I was told that if I could start it right back up it may not be that? Does this sound correct?
May not be all the way bad, sometimes they don't just crap out immediately. They'll cause sporadic stalls and the engine will start right back up. Once it goes out all the way, you're not gonna start, and you can usually tell that by looking to see if you have tach movement while cranking.

from my experience that is exactly what it will do. it will die and then fire right back up. on mine the longer i let it go without replacing the cmp the worse it got, until i finally had to have it towed
Yep it's easy. I'm not a pro and I did it in 10 min. Remove the belt first to get to it easier. Then I used a ratchet with a 2" extension to get to the 10mm bolt. Be sure not to strip it by angling the socket. Should be cake, icing is ... no more stalls.... I keep the bad one in my extra parts box behind the seat. Mine was not completely gone, so just in case someone needs one when they're stranded....
I don't know how to transfer the link (help me if you can, email). Here's how you can find it: Search "camp sensor" then about 6 threads down by johnsdiesel are the directions. Hope this helps you like it did me about a month ago. Now somebody help me with these links....
I'm new to the Diesel world, but I did find a place that sells OEM part cheap. I used them to get a glow plug relay, they were about 1/3 the price of the ford dealer.

You can still buy a part like the CMP Sensor from International for less.

I bought one new in a sealed package off of e-bay. $75 and another $5 for shipping. $80 total vs $189.00 plus $14 state tax came to $203 total at the Ford dealer. Also a little advice... carry a spare... you never know where you will be when one goes out.
