What do deer like to eat??

Just ask any Lanark County (in Ontario Canada) farmer or land owner. Their reply will be "our liveilyhood" Deer population has reached a menacing amount around here. They are now seen as rodents. All they are good for is destroying crops and causing accidents on our roads. Our Ministry of Natural Resources just released a new quota of up to 7 deer to be taken per person per hunting season. (700% increase over 2002 quotas)
Marc150, I know this isn't the response you were looking for. I'm just ranting on behalf of all the farmers, landowners and motorists in my area.
I hear they like apples!!

Once they come to depend on feed being there, you can really throw off the surrounding eco system. Or if you someday stop, they will be in danger of starving in the winter.
my 2 cents

I'm going to have to agree on this one.

deer feed
If you have to feed them especially during lean times the best is a natural diet, grass hay and a little alfalfa. Deer do best on natural graze so do horses for that matter unless you really work them. The next best is pellets not the rich stuff you use to fatten up animals like beef and pork but the pet stuff like pet rabbit pellets, goat and sheep chow etc. Wild deer will eat just about anything and so will tame ones. When I let mine out I have to close the garage and I cannot work on anything. They will get into everything, and the male is fearless to the point he pokes around in running engine compartments even,I was working on my small truck one day and I was getting something out of a tool box and I turned around just in time to see him grab a plug wire. I felt sorry for him but it was still funny to see. Thats what happens when you bottle raise one.
Oh and they love fruit, fresh or dried, But no matter how friendly they may seem don't hand feed wild deer or any wild animals, if you ever want to see how bad it can be hand feed a group of pet goats or sheep and imagine them much bigger, my male deer gets impatient sometimes and stands up on his back feet trying to reach the bucket.

Just got back from the Bass Pro Shop(O MY GOD, SO BEAUTIFUIL AND SO MUCH STUUUUFFFFF!!!!!) I got some Secret Spot colver stuff and Beast Feast Food Supplement. Ill plant the lcover stuff soon so itll grow and give good winter forge. Im only feeding them enough to give them an extra "boost". Theres plenty of food, forge, brush and assorted tree barks that will give them food. I just want to provide a better, healthier, supplemental food. Maybe Ill ****** a bale of hay from my boss for the tough winter(if it is tough this year). Im only feedin them when they realy need it, fall and winter. Ill start off slow and end feeding slowly, so its not such a shock for the deer. Ill go round and clean up the apples from the neighbors yards and put 'em out there. Im gonna spread out the feeding spots over the whole property.
