Squeaking brakes

Have an F250 which has 40% pad left on front and rear. Rear brakes are drum brakes. I'm having problems with the brakes squeaking on this truck. Its intermittent and does not appear to be weather related. I've been assured by a mechanic that there is no grooving going on with the rotors and that the pads are applying evenly to the disc/drum. I had the fluid flushed in the entire brake system and all hoses checked for leaks. Nothing. Has anyone had the same issue...I am considering having the pads replaced with OEM material to see if this solves the problem.

I would guess you currently have semimetallic pads on there? Unfortunately the steel strands used in semi-metallic pads to provide strength and conduct heat away from rotors can also generate noise. Without hearing the squeeking, I couldn't say for sure, but I'd guess that virtually any of the premium pads and shoes available would quiet your brakes down. I haven't tried the ceramic compound pads/shoes yet, but from what I've read they reduce brake dust, noise and perform exceptionally well.

I have not R&R'd these brakes since buying the truck. My guess is that they are semi-metallic. I had an '87 Ranger which had a similar problem.
