I have a question about my serpentine belt. I have a 95' Aerostar with a 3.0L engine. Like a fool I took the belt off to replace the water pump without first sketching the rout of the belt. My manual has a diagram that I thought I would be able to use to put the new belt on with, but it looks like there are two different planes that the belt should travel on in the diagram (from the side view) where my van has all of the pulleys on one plane.
After many many attempts I have found one path that seems to work, but the belt is still way too loose.
Should I be worried about something turning the wrong way if I have the belt on wrong? And does any one have a diagram that they can send me/or post?

I don't have the 3.0 but I would be concerned about correct routing if
the belt is still not tight. There are a lot of 3.0 owners on this forum hopefully
somebody will step up to the plate. If you plan on keeping it for a while
a repair manual from one of the auto stores will be a good investment.
serpintine belt routing diagram should be on the undeside of the hood. open it up, and look up. haynes manual also should have a decent diagram. i have the 4.0 . there is a difference in belt size for a/c, or no a/c. if you follow the diagram and are still way off it may be the wrong size.also look on this forum under "search" . most of us have been there before. good luck! rick
Kristoferforest,
Welcome to FTE Aerostar forum. You are not the first one to be baffled by the belt routing on the 3.0. There are several long posts regarding this subject with much teeth gnashing before getting it correct. Do a search on this forum for "serpentine belt routing" and see what comes up.
I'd help, but the 3L in my 89 doesn't use the serpentine system ... thank GOD! I hate serpentine belts!! Anything that makes EVERYTHING depend on one little strip of rubber can never be a good idea in my books. At least the old way only cost you ONE accessory!
Thank you all for your help. The belt is now back on and going fine. As rickm5 suggested the rout for the serpentine belt was on the hood. I then found out that acording to the diagram I was missing a pulley. When I took the belt off I noticed the bolt hole for an extra pulley, but thought that that was just for an accesory that I didn't have. (that was why I had such an easy time pulling the belt off, I didn't have to loosen a thing.)
Nope, it was for the second idler pulley. The hard part was finding a new one. Th auto parts store had the pulley but not the bolt and spacer that would keep it on. I finaly ended up going to a salvage yard and pulled one from a 90' ford taurus. It fit perfectly, The only difference is that that the bolt head is a little smaller, I had to borrow a 3/4 socket from the yard to get it off instead of using the socket that I took of 1st pulley with (for comparison).
Thanks again.
