2 mpg jump. why?
I have a 2000 F150 with 4.2 and 5 speed. Here is what I just experienced:
Last weekend I changed my oil (10W30 conventional) did a SeaFoam treatment - and MAN did it ever smoke!!. Then added a bottle of the high dollar fuel injector cleaner - the bigger bottle for larger vehicles - trucks and SUVs.
I drove Birmingham-Little Rock-Birmingham leaving mid morn on Monday and arriving back Bham mid morn Tuesday. Weather was hot (mid 90s) so I ran the AC during the day. Some of my driving was at night so I went window down part of the way.
Average interstate speed low-mid 70s. Some traffic in Memphis and Little Rock meant slower speeds and more on/off gas while in those areas.
Anyways, I got 19-19.5 mpg.
This is up from my average 17-17.5.
I drove only SLIGHTLY slower than normal (approx 3 mph slower on the Interstate).
Why the jump in MPG ??
Could the SeaFoam and/or the fuel injector cleaner make that much difference, or was it due to slightly slower speed? If 3 MPH can make that much difference, I'll slow down.
Interestingly, this is probably the best mpg I have ever gotten, except for when I drove 60-65 one trip to see what it would do and it got about what I got this trip running low-mids 70s. Truck has 135,500 miles on it and burns no oil at all. It seems to run as good as the day I bought it 4 1/2 years ago.
Thanks in advance for any comments!
