I need to know if I need any special tools to replace the fuel pressure regulator (FPR) on a 95 EB 4.0. The Haynes manual indicates that you do but looking at the fuel return line on top of the FPR, it looks like a regular fitting that I can loosen with a wrench.
I know I need to relieve the fuel pressure before I start. I need some guidance from somebody who has done this.
I replaced this on my 91 and YES, it did need a special tool to remove the fuel return line (and was a real pain to get off also). But I also know there was more than one version of the fuel hose assemblies used.
In your case, however, if it is a screw on fitting, you should not need anything other than standard metric hand tools. I think there were 2 10MM bolts holding the regulator to the fuel rail, the fuel return line, and a vacuum line. Clearing a path to get to the bolts was the most troublesome part of the process after disconnecting the push on fuel return line in my case. Be carefull no to crossthread the bolts on re-installation as the holes are taped into aluminum and they crossthread easily. You definately do not want to have to remove the upper intake fuel rail and drill/tap/helicoil the holes.
