Well here we go again. I've got 3 different options to "re-do" the heart on my Bronco. Simple way would be buying the long block engine 302 all aluminum offered by Ford Racing with 340Hp. Second option is buying the short block 347 strocker with the GT-40 Heads, which should be above 340Hp. And the most difficult would be opening my engine, check the status of the block, clean it, balance the engine, buy the 347 strocker kit (crank, pistons, H-beams, etc) and then change to GT-40 heads. What you guys think?
Also, forgot, anyway I go, my Bronco is my sunday driver, so I'm planning to put a blower (powerdyne) when I'm finish with the engine, and also see if I can take the rear suspension of a newer Ford SUV I've heard they're independent now...
y do u want IRS
just asking because seems like alot of power to go through ind. suspension i didnt think it could handle it
and from my experience the ride smoothness is not that much better in the IRS ford suvs
himura77. well you wont be able to run your stroker till you conver to mass air. it would be the same cost to swap in a 351w. easy straight forward swap, better block. i did the swap last summer and was the best mod i could have done.
Why do you think that made has anything to do with whether the axle is independent or not? Do you think that high end performance cars like BMWs, Jags, Porsches, etc. are solid axle?
But I agree with you in that the difference in ride quality isn't that noticable.
Well basically the whole idea is just that I'm done with rough driving and offroading my baby. She's in my island of Puerto Rico and I don't have the people to work on her, like we have them here in the US. And because she's my sunday driver, why not try to give her a little update; if I'm going to change the heart might as well do a good job and update the tranny and rear. But I'd really like to get the most of the 302 base, which is why I posted this messege. She's an XLT not the Eddie one, so I wanna smoke a Eddie any day and may give a lightning a run for their money.
Why not install a 351w lightning engine in it and add a few goodies to that? 351w would be more reliable than a 302 stroker, easy to install comes from the same family as the 302. I'd go with a 6 speed behind it and add a 9" rear with some good gearing. Oh man that be one hell of a custom street bronco with some off road ablities. Whats it cost to fly to Puerto Rico? Might just as cheap to fly some skilled help over to help build her.
thanks for the help offered. the only problem is the budget. a 351 tends to run about $2K more than even the 347. Probably will work my way to a T5 tranny and either a Dana or the 9" for the rear...but also everything is in do time..I'm still studying in Indiana....don't you wish Overhaul was for everyone? (TV program on TLC channel)
i didnt really say how i meant to say "power through the IRS" i was just under the impression that large tires and heavy towing could not be handled by the IRS i mean to much ?torque? on the axles and i guess is what im getting at but if its gonna be a street performance machine then that doesnt matter
