Need information on differential
I have only VIN 1FTHF25Z6CPA28532 for my F250. The "plate" with the gear-ratio and other pertinent information is absent. How do I obtain the information I need to find a replacement rear end?

this should help...
Is it a semi or full floating rear end? If its full floater, itll have drive hubs on the rear. Similar to hubs on a front axle but always locked. look like a big round, hunk of metal with bolt caps around the top. if its a semi floating rear end, it will just have a falt flange that your tire bolts too., Nothing in the middle. If its a full floater, it'll be whats called a "Sterling 10.5/10.25" same axle, thats just the ring gear size, why they did that nobody knows. If its a semi floater it'll be whats called a Dana/Spicer model 60, or Dana60. hope that helps. For the gear ratio, if yer really stuck, just pull off the diff cover, (if its a D60 the bolts will take a 5/8 wrench, dont know about the Sterling) get yerself a drain pan underneath first becasue all your gear lube will come pouring out! (Probly due for a change anyway) count the teethon the ring gear, count the teeth on the pinon, divide first # by last number,# voila! your gear ratio. Should be either 3.52, 3.73, or 4.10 the number you get will be within a few percentage points of one of them.
