Doesn't happaen all the time. Ford dealership thinks I'm crazy.
I have a 1998 Explorer XLT with the 6 CD changer and in-dash slot CD radio.
Every now and then the radio will just turn itself off. The clock is still on but I cannot turn the radio back on. I can insert a CD and the CD will play but I can't change tracks nor can I turn the radio on. I can eject the CD and the radio will stay on. In a few miutes in will shut off and I cannot turn it back on. In a very short while it will turn itself on.
After awhile it stops doing this and I have no problems.
If it is still under warranty, has the dealer tried replacing the radio? If out of warranty, it would probably be cheaper to just buy a new radio if it is annoying enough. Visteon makes Ford replacement radios if you need to go that route.
I've had the display go out on mine twice in one year now - I have the Ford extended warranty though, do they have to replace it for free - you should probably just get an aftermarket radio - much cheaper in the long run...
