Flowmaster the only "chambered" muffler?

I'm looking to put on a better exhaust system, I want a cat-back dual. I've been asking around and was told to go with Flowmaster because it's chambered and wont disintigrate internally like some others. I'm looking for the power boost but dont want the noise. I can take a little but I want the sound level as close to stock as possible. Also to note: dont want to spend a fortune...would like to keep it under 350.

Any advice?

Thanks,
shane

Your saying you want "dual exhaust" after your cats but you want it to sound nearly stock. Im sorry, but im asking myself "whats the point". Its kind of a hard question because I really do not believe you are going to find a catback exhaust system for under $350. And to find one that retains your stock exhaust sound and to also produce some power (without high flow cats) is also really tough. I think you are better off just buying a single inlet and dual outlet muffler of your choice and then get the duals custom made at a exhaust shop. But then I do not think you are going to feel any power gains. Not with out a good catback system with high flow cats and crossover pipe.

The one thing that really sets american v8's apart from any other cars is the sound of good quality dual exhaust. I would buy a v8 JUST to have the sound of dual exhaust.

Shane, there's a lot of chambered types on the market besides Flowmaster. The best (and quietest) is the Hooker Aero Chamber. It'll give you a performance and mpg gain, without all the noise.

There's also the MAC mufflers, which are efficient but loud. Spintechs, which are also loud. Moroso Spiral Flow, you guessed it, LOUD. Imco makes a copy of the Flowmasters, that has a similiar sound.

I have a Hooker on my Explorer Sport. It has a deep mellow tone, that is not much louder than stock. It's an excellent muffler, in my opinion.

snowmobilerfreak: you dont think any performance gain can be acheived by changing out the muffler? you're correct, what I want is to come off the cat and into a single in/dual out muffler. I was of the understanding that replacing your stock muffler is one of the easiest ways to add some power and maybe a little mileage.

thelonerangerxlt: thanks for the list!!

if you gain any power it will barely be noticable and not worth the money if thats why your doing it. if your going performance, single 3 inch pipe all the way or just go true dual. 2 and a quarter inch. if performance is your goal.

Yep, Exactly what MODRU2004 just said.

There may be a power gain but nothing you are going to feel, except MAYBE see on a dyno. But nothing your going to feel in your pants.

You wanter better power, go with highflow cats...i hear they flow O.K. but will NEVER compare to true duals. But then again you said you didnt want to go over 350 so you are very limited. Just a GOOD set of headers (gibson, bassani) are going to cost you atleast $350.

Hmm, that blows. I'm looking for some small things I can do that will collectively give me a bit more power and mileage. Started with a cotton filter, thought maybe the exhaust would add a bit to it. The $350 is just the limit I put on that particular aspect of what I am trying to achieve. I looked at some full exhaust systems but dont really want to go that extreme.
