how about exaust size?? muffler??

how about exaust size?? muffler??
ok here is what i am thinking trying to pick up a set of fenderwell headers
2 High flow cats prob no air pipes unless sugested as advisable
now going to be stock 351m strapping a intake/carb/aussies/if poss a 265deh
eventully will be 400ci++
what pipe size would be best 3 would be too big as i understand
2 prob too small
so 2 1/4 or 1/2 and what would the difference be
would like a relitively quite exaust with good flow
what kind of noise reduction do collector cones offer or are they for spark stoping
how about "quick disconnect" mufflers?
don't really care for the "flowmaster sound" but they have several types
is there a device that opens the exaust at a certian rpm by flow? like a trap doop or flapper
it must of been tryed but was it helpful and produced
