i posted this in the powerstroke forum before i thought about posting it here. im installing stacks on a 97 f-250 Heavy Duty CC and have a few questions. im gonna install raincaps and wonder if they should be turned so that the wind from highway driving pushes the farther opened or closed. next i cant decide if i want to make my stacks from crome, stainless, or maybe just black. headache rack is black and stacks will come out right behind rack but ive never seen black stacks. any input is appreciated. i have also thought about saving room by integrating the stacks and headache rack and using the stacks for the sides of the rack. what is yalls opinion??? thanks a lot
turn the caps so that they are pushed closed going down the hiway, or so the hinge is to the front of the pipe, if you put them on the other way they can actually bend, and they will direct wind, and rain down your exhaust when running down the road.
As far as finish chrome looks good but hard to take care of, stainless is expensive but also looks good, black us just regular pipe, painted with high temp paint, alot of people use BBQ paint, I have actually (and you probably won't believe this but it is true, found it by accident when selling a motorcycle on time) used marhyde vinil color paint this stuff lasted longer than any header paint I have ever used.
The chrome stacks on your truck will last along time. In the bed they aren't exposed to salt, dirt, rock chips etc. like they are under the bumper exhaust tips. Put a good wax on them and they'll be fine
