mid 60 cab and motor.

Hi there,

while driving around the back blocks the other day I came across a mid 60 f ??? cab, I'm not sure if might be a F500 or F600 it came of a tray truck, the hole front clip is there (cab, guards, grill, bonnet,)
I was wondering if the cab is the same size as an F100-250-350 just with bigger guards it sure looks like it.

also the motor out of it is sitting beside the cab it's the size of a 460 but the distributer is at the back of the motor, which made me think it was not a ford motor, but I have been wrong before.

The farmer said I could have it all for a slab of beer.

will the cab fit a f100 chassie ?

Thanks Ray71

Ray,
In general terms your answer is YES, with same 61-64 & 65-66 or 4X4 vs 4X2 exceptions, depending on several variables. But generally speaking FoMoCo F Series cabs are basically the same thing for all intents & purposes for F100 thru F800 series, as long as it's an F series truck, and between 61 & 66 production years.

Fenders, support core, lwr front valance[gravel deflector] grille panel & some hoods are different, but 4X4 guys love those wide wheel opening type front fenders for use with large mudder tires. And some of the larger F series maybe F500 or 600 & up have aneat scoop offset to left side of hood to put gauges in, on F100- F350.

Also there should be a real neat instrument cluster in dash & some other gauges you can use & make work in lighter F Series trucks. Many 61-66 F500 & larger had Custom Cab "soft" interior & the rear cab interior trim panel because they generally used some frame mounted saddle tanks for fuel tanks etc.

The engine may be an FT instead of an FE there are some differences betwen them, but I'm not sure that the Dizzy location is one. It's NOT a 385 series engine because they are definitely a front mounted Dizzy engine like the FE.

If the fuel filler delete plug in the left side of cab, where fuel filler neck usually goes is still there & intact I'll pay good $$$$ for it, if you want to sell it. I need an OEM filler delete plug for a job I'm doing.

The cab & doors however are the same basic pieces for all F models, and some other models like an N model. . . .

I don't know where you're located, but where I am solid bare bones cab sheetmetal brings upwards of $250, depending on condition etc. Decent doors bring upwards of $100 each, hinges are $50-75 a pair and so forth, so depending on a bunch of stuff I do not know the details of, on that particular cab you have at least $450 worth of parts between the cab & doors alone. I don't know what a "slab of beer" is but if it's worth less than $100 I'd have already gotten that cab for the parts value alone, if it has the stuff I mentioned and is in fair to decent condition. . . .

Be SURE floors are solid! If thing is sitting in a field, on grass, remember by product of plant photo synthesis (light making food) is oxygen, so grass under steel body for too long can cause the floors to rot away to nothing....double check that.

Just my $.02 worth on the subject. . . .

Thanks for the reply,

first I must tell you what a slab of beer is, I think you would call it a case of beer (24 cans) but I'm in Australia we call it a slab of beer.

The cab has a little rust in the bottom left hand rear corner other than that its in good shape and the fuel filler was all intack on the left hand side but I'm not sure what you mean by delete plug.

I think I'll get the cab but it won't be till next week or the one after, if the part you are looking for is there and not to big I might be able to post it over to you.

It's called a flat of beer here in Canader

The engine could be a Y block (292) with the distributor at the back, Chev style.

The front valence on those big trucks is in big demand to substitute for a front bumper on a rod, like a front roll pan. Also those big truck fenders (guards) do look cool on a flareside 4x4 with big mudders.

The delete plug Pete is talking about is a rubber plug on the cab where the gas (petrol) filler usually comes out behind the left hand door handle. On a big truck with saddle tanks they didn't have the cab tank , and those rubber plugs are hard to find.

The cab will probably have the battery box in the floor on a big truck too, which is stock on a 4x4 up to '66, they are kind of a rare cab when doing a restoration on a 4x4 so you could prolly get your money back in spades for the lager if you find the right buyer!

A flat of beer , The things I learn from this site are priceless.

I'll have to get some numbers off of the motor, I thought it may have had a cheby or a dooge motor in it, But Y block sounds better who in there right mind would put a chev in a ford.

The gas tank filler in on the left hand side behind the door handle, so I'll have a look and see if the rubber is in good nick.

If the gas filler is there, then the rubber plug (delete) is NOT.
The plug is used only to fill the hole when a cab tank was NOT present. Like the rubber grommets in a firewall, just bigger.

and, you are right, no one in their right mind would put no dang bowtie motor in a Ford

Hey 'flat of beer' sounds right to me, eh?
a 'case' of beer is a dozen bottles
a 'two-four' of beer is two dozen bottles
the education never stops here on the FTE site eh?

Talking Down under & Great White at the same time???

G'day Ray,
Too bad for me about the Delete plug, Oh Well that's how it goes. . .

Thanx for checking it out anyway. . . .

Also thanx for straightenin' me out on the slab o' beer thing, me thinx me should imbibe less and perhaps read more. You're 100% right on about things we can learn here in the FTE. For example I learned I can put my foot in my mouth while stepping on peoples toes at the same time, in a New York Minute without even realizing it. . . . . how about them apples?

Ringo it's really tough seeing you listed as a freshman user when I really know so much better than that, eh? ROTFLMAO

My Granparents, uncles aunts & Mom used that "eh?" all the time being from Lakeside near St.John, in NB, down east, as they were. But it all went wierd here in Southern US where "Huh?" & "Doncha know, or Doncha see" is more the vernacular.

Ray sounds like a great find have a "good-un" draggin that badboy home. That would be what. . . . . . . . . A Foster moment?

Oh Wow ! . . . re:subject of Beer, RF have you heard Molson & Coors have or are mergering into one big beer dynasty? I wonder how that will work out. One of Canadas major financial institution just bought out a financial institution & major insurance group I have shares in here in the states not a year ago. It made me some US $$$ when my holdings 2x-ed now I got to pay the US Gov mre taxes. . . .

Well since this isn't truck related and IT IS a truck Forum, I'll fold my tent and go silently into cyberspace again. Besides the thought in that comment about a Blow Tie Engines is gonna make me hurl so I need to go get a pot to puke in. . . .

Caaatch y'all on the rerun guys. . . .

Crimony, mate, the old British empire is taking over this thread, eh?!

Pete, I have heard that someone reproduces those deletes, I can't remember if it's Carpenter or John's F100 or one of the fine sponsors of the FTE site here (hows that for brownnosing? LOL)

There are lots of Aussie's and Kiwis in this part of the Country, they come up for the skiing in the winter. Fun bunch, those from down under! I wish there were more here on FTE, this place is definitely disproportionately populated by Canadians! And Aussie-built Fords all have them Cleveland V8's. They got them cool Utes, too.

The older Ford trucks they have in Oz are mostly Canadian built, because the RHD truck plant was in Oakville Ontario. Figure that one out! Someone's idea of shipping from the closest plant was sure screwy, on the wrong coast and way up north California should have been the place to be, IMO.

Glad you made money on the insurance merge fbPete, the Molson/Coors thing is not really gonna change much here. Molson already made our Coors Light, and Coors already made the States's Canadian anyway. Meet the new Brewer, same as the old Brewer!

Ray, call someone from Texas a Yank and see what it gets you

Course, to the rest of the world, all of 'em are Yanks, but I know Canadians in Dallas who are called Yankees... figure that one out, eh?

They got some mighty fine rust-free trucks in parts of Tejas, though. There must be a few sandblasted beautys sitting out in the Donga, too I imagine.
If I had a way to get 'em back, and converted to LHD, I'd start an import business for those Utes, to North America. They quit the Ranchero in 1979 here, they would be a real hot novelty with those honkin' Aussie V8's here.

And they got that Shiner Bock beer in Texas! Even you would like it, Ray! Mmmmmmmmmm.

I don't go much on our ute's, there tuff allright but to small for my liking.
the most populer ute's are the holden's (GMH) and they are owned by (GMC).

But FORD is out selling holden this year for the first time in many years because of the new BA model it's winning the V8 super cars, where only FORD's and Holdens race, it's always been the same over here the company that wins the most races sells the most cars.

For the last two year's we have been getting the F-150,250,350 back we havn't seen much of them since 1996 but now there every where, they start at $60.000 bit much for my liking.

But price's my come down sone it looks like we are about to sign the free trade agreement between Australia and the US which will be good for you if you did start to inport the Aussie ute's, there will be no inport duty and your dollar is worth 30 cents more than our's.

The FORD xr8 is about the tuffest looking and fastest Aussie Ute you will buy at the moment.

So log onto www.carpoint.com.au or www.carsales.com.au and start buy.

Cheers Ray71.
