I recently purchased a 1995 F150 w/ 300 cid l6 w/ 125,000 miles. The truck ran OK but I wanted to give it a tune up as most parts looked old. I replaced the spark plugs, spark plug wires and attempted to replace the cap and rotor. There was too much rust on the cap tightening screws and they broke off, requiring me to purchase a new distributor.
After buying and installing the new distributor with new cap and rotor, there was no spark. I returned the distributor and got another one from the parts store, and still no spark. I checked the coil and there is no spark coming from the coil.
How can I diagnose this? Should I just buy a new coil? What else is involved with spark control on these?
this turned out to be a corroded connection on the coil, go figger. After pulling the connection, cleaning it slightly and re-connecting it ran like a champ!
