air conditioning problem

Can anyone help me with an air conditioning problem ? I have a 1997 ford f-150 4x4, 4.6 l v-8. My a/c starting acting up, (blowing warm air occasionally) so i put a can of r-134a in there. now it blows ice cold when it feels like it, usually for the first 15 minutes of running, and then it quits and blows warm air. I noticed last year that the compressor would click a lot, and it still makes that clicking at an idle, sounding like its turning on and off... I am wondering if its a bad relay or a bad switch or something. Its almost like it wants to quit when the engine gets up to normal operating temperature. Sometimes it will come back on after its been turned off for a while.

I say this from experience, not because I'm an A/C expert (I'm not). It sounds like the compressor clutch is going bad or the clutch relay is acting up - this is assuming the freon is at an adequate level as you suggest.

a/c problem

Ok, thanks for the direction... i think i will by-pass the relay, and if the compressor still wont kick on, i will move along to the compressor clutch... It wouldnt work at all today, so im a little anxious to get the problem solved !
