I own a 98 4.2 and I got new tires on the weekend. The shop noted that the front shock bushings were dryrotted and should be replaced. Is this a big problem? How much should it cost?
Unless you know someone who has some extra rubber donuts, you may have to look into an aftermarket set of polyurathane bushings, they way they are designed though, the lower bushing actually has a tapered rubber cone that comes up through the shock mount hole and the top bushing is tapered to go on top. the factory shocks SUCK and you would be way better off replacing them with some Gabriels or other good brand.
Hi Bob and welcome to the forum
Your dealer probably stocks the bushings but I think they are quite expensive. Looking into some aftermarket ones like czech suggested is probably a good idea.
I've seen lots of these that looked like they were dry rotted but were still tight and not causing any problems though too.
