hey guys, is it safe to get a tuner or chip with a higher milegae
psd 7.3, it has 110K and all stock.
i plan on gauges, exhaust and intake first---then tuner----is it
safe? i only will probably use the lowest setting for extra perf.
Of course, with the mods comes responsibility. Don't expect it to be bulletproof if you drive at WOT all the time. You might also want to consider some transmission upgrades if the tuner/chip you are planning on getting doesn't firm up the shifts.
I second John's suggestion.......... although I haven't done it yet, you should look into the Sonnax valve and tricumulator spring mod. It's no more than $50 and it will beef up your trans. You get firmer/quicker shifts. It lessens slipage which keeps the trans temps down slightly.... helping to prolong the life of your trans.
You probably wouldn't HAVE to - but I would bet your transmission would live a longer, happier life. At only $50 - I figured it was cheap tranny insurance until I can afford a BTS!!
med, pay close attention to everything said before my posting. I installed my superchips microtuner at 115,000 and it rocked. But now something ain't right, but stupid me never did get the gauges. Glad to hear you were gonna first. The tranny spring is a great idea too, because the 4R100 doesn't hold pressure well when the hp is upped without the new spring. Got 140,000 now, still got lots of power, but as i said, something's missing, and i'll bet the gauges would have led me to the culprit
the chips/tuners on anything with 'higher' mileage kind of makes me nervous for that reason. I have an Impala SS and that is for speed, my F-350 PSD is for looks, cruising and fun---dont really need more hp and risk screwing something up
