Hello everyone. I am a classic mustang nut ( I have a 65 fastback and 66 convertible, one of those will be sold soon). I have to play eany, meanie, minie, mo to decide which one to sell. I also have a 99 Cobra convertible as a daily driver. Yes, I am brand loyal!!
I also have a pregnant wife at home and we needed something a little larger, so off to the Ford dealer we went (needless to say the Cobra will be sold also). We purchased an 04 4x2 EB premiere package, monochromatic (red fire metallic) EXPY. I liked it because because it was little different than most EPXY's.
Not being the type of guy to leave things stock, I have already added a K&N cold air intake, Magnaflow catback and tasteful 20" wheels on Falken tires. I have also had the windows tinted as dark as I possibly could to keep the EXPY as cool as possible in the scorching FL. sun!!
I appreciate all of the good info on this site and I am sure I will have plenty of questions for you veteran EXPY owners. For example, does anyone know of a company that makes aftermarket rear anti sway bars for the 04. The front bar is nice and beefy, but the rear could be a little larger.
Sounds like a sweet ride you've got. I love the new fire red paint... it's the color of our NBX. The rear anti-sway bar is amazing. Not sure who thought a pencil-sized rod could help much with controlling body roll on a top-heavy SUV. Be sure to let us know how the new bar works out- if you get one.
How could you tell I am a Rush fan?? I saw them last week in Tampa and Atlanta. It wat the EXPY's first trip and she did great. I was fortunate enough to score 5th row tickets for the Atlanta show. I agree they just get better with age. They have been my favorite band for 24 years.
Generally, the thicker the circumference of the anti-sway bar (both front and rear), the less body roll you have when turning or cornering. The vehicle plants a little more stable. That being said you have to match the front and rear accordingly for best results. If you look at the front sway bar in your Expy it is pretty beefy, but the back is pretty skinny. I have seen anti-sway bars for 97-02 Expy, but I have not seen any for 04 Expy.
I like to try to make a good thing better, so I am firm believer in modifications that make a car run and handle better.
I am coming out of A Cobra into an Expy (wife pregnant with our first child) and it is different in every respect (except gas mileage). I never expect the Expy to run or handle like a Cobra, but anything I can do to help the Expy reach its full potential is a plus.
So far this site has helped a lot and I have found great info on all aspects of our vehicles.
