I have a 75 F150 with a 300 3spd column shift and it has a 2-piece driveshaft (has the center carrier bearing in it).
I went to the junkyard today and saw a 76 F100 with a 300 3spd and it had a 1 piece driveshaft.....
Which is correct for my truck? Reason I ask is my 2 piece will need a rebuild, but I have an extra one piece driveshaft from a 79 F150 351M C6. Should I go over my 2 piece or should I just put the one piece in and forget about it??
there were several lengths of trans used in the 70s, as long as the shaft wont be more than 72 inches long you can use a straight driveline. only thing you will have to do is remove the carrier bearing bracket, it will rub on the straight shaft if you put a load on it.
you can measure from the weld on the rear of the rear shaft to the weld on the front of the front shaft and subtract 2 inches to get the correct length of shaft you will need.
