I have a 1995 Extended Aerostar with a 4.0 engine. Can anyone tell me where to locate the oxygen sensor and how difficult is it to get at. I have a Chilton manual but they don't show the oxygen sensor location on a 4.0. Any help will be greately appreciated. Thanks.
it;s on the right side exhaust pipe just after it comes off the head. You will see it screwed in with wires coming out. it's not hard to replace but take it out and with you when you go get a new one. Ford has 4 types and you will need to get that number off it.
Thanks loads, but is the right side the passenger side or the driver side? I also have a 1997 Aerostar 3.0 and the sensor is on the passenger side as shown in the Chilton book, easy to see and get to. Can't see anything on the 4.0 unless it's on the drivers side. Will look later after the rain goes away. Thanks again.
On vehicles right and left are always taken from the perspective of sitting in the driver's seat so right is the passenger's side.
You might find you need to remove the oil filter to get at the wiring connector or remove the inside doghouse to get at it.
Well guys the rain stopped, and I think I have a strange EXT 4.0. Can’t find the oxygen sensor anywhere. Looked at the exhaust pipe on both sides of the y, all the way up to the manifold. Nothing there. Looked before and after the cat and nothing there. Did however locate a parts (component) locator and it shows the sensor just below and forward of the #3 fuel injector. Can this be? Took off the inside engine cover but again can’t see beyond the distributor or coil. Can’t see from the bottom and can’t see from the top. Guess this is a job for a Ford mechanic. Hate going to Ford for a simple fix and paying their price. Any other suggestion out there. Frustrated.
