on my 2002 XLT Ranger, the entire display went out (lighter did to)...everything works but no display. Ford told me to call a local stero house who does all Ford work and the guy said all Fords blow some sort of power unit and he gets 5 a week every week. cost is just under 300.00! This sounds crazy to me... anyone have this problem. I did read those post about older radio's with the soder problem but this seems to be different..I sure need help... Thanks!!
Yes, I just called again and they said it was 350.00! Can you believe that? The tech said they had to get inside the sterol! Geesh...this is almost highway robbery..
i read somewhere on this forum instructions on how to fix it yourself. 350 bucks is highway robbery. i would tell the ford dealer that this local stereo shop is ripping their customers off, and that you'll go elsewhere to buy a new vehicle. i just put a new head unit in my 91 F250. get an install kit from walmart, buy a cheap CD head unit (at walmart?) and put it in. get the wiring adapter for fords. it's so easy. i would even tell the stereo shop they are ripping folks off. i would like to know how they can justify that cost.
equium, So far I'm disgusted with Ford... they want 250.00 to replace the mirror on the passenger side. (When I rented a Chevy van for vacation I broke one and replaced it for 16.00)..Ford says we have to replace the whole pod!...The handle for my seat back broke and they want 24.00, for a 3.00 injection molded part, everything on this (2002 XLT 44 Super cab) truck is plastic and cheaply made...even new hump hood is fiberglass!! I won't buy another compact Ford truck again! By the way the parts/service guy recommended to replace the stereo/cd/clock due to problems... rather than fix.
I don't think my problem is the same.."The problem is with the display power
supply board getting too hot and cracking the poorly solder joints."
.I was told it has to do with replacing a power unit...rather than just a solder problem...if they are the same then heck I'll puill out my unit and solder away..
I was re-reading the web site that was posted and the guys are right all these Ford display problems are due to soldering...why dosen't Ford do something if we are all having the same troubles. Why are the after market guys along with Ford charging us 350.00 when this one guy will show us how to do it for 20.00???!! Gawd some people should be lead out and...have their butt's kicked
