There needs to be different classifications of suvs. Driving around the Big Caddy with over 300 hp, 6000 lbs, and 10-12 mpg is a good example of a waste of energy. My 1994 Ranger I had a few years ago with a 4.0 got 19-20 mpg driving the 48 mile round trip to work and back. My 2000 EB Expedition 5.4 gets 18 mpg. Is that so bad? I use the Exp to haul a 20' boat during the Summer and leave it parked most of the time. I drive it occasionally to work, but usually drive an old '86 Nissan truck that gets 19 mpg. Unless I start driving a rice rocket, I'm not going to save much fuel or help emissions much at all by driving my Exp. Just my .02, Dave
If you haul a boat or a motorhome, that's fine. You are getting better gas mileage in your Expedition than you would in an underpowered light truck, and you are towing it more safely. But if you buy one as a status symbol, you should come over to my house so I can smack you up. With my Saturn.

I am all for the environment. I think that it is hypocritical for these people to say that SUV drivers support terrorism. Do these people drive vehicles themselves? Sure it may be a Geo Metro or the city bus, but is that not still a fossil burning vehicle?
My point of view is these people calling us terrorists is hypocritical. It is the same as someone that threw only one punch in a fight calling someone else who threw two punches in the same fight a violent person
I am glad you think my thread is ridiculous. It showcases your inability to think in logical thought patterns, and I find that amusing.
And yeah, I drive a fossil fuel burning vehicle. In fact I drive two. One gets 38 mpg, and the other gets 15. But the fact remains, if you buy a large vehicle for the purpose of merely having a large vehicle, you are wasting energy. If you cruise around alone in an Excursion, to and from work, the grocery store, and to run other errands, you shouldn't be driving one. Buy a sedan or a Ranger, man. If you tow stuff, or haul stuff, sure, drive a large vehicle. I live in Denver, where it's snowy and icy, and I drive a Saturn. I don't need 4 wheel drive, and neither do the yuppies in the Suburbans and Tahoes. I go over Loveland Pass in snowstorms in the Saturn, and I laugh at the SUV's that are flipped on their tops in the median because the idiot thought that 4 wheel drive equals 4 wheel stop.
Ok, if you waste petroleum products, which SUV's do, then you support the economies of Arab nations that sponsor terrorists. So the yuppie on the cell phone driving the Excursion or the Crew Cab HD by himself is a supporter of terrorism. But you'll never hear Dubya say that, it might **** off his oil boys. Inefficient use of resources is a telltale sign of apathy.

So who's to judge what is appropriate use of a vehicle or if someone 'needs' a certain type of automobile. And if you drive around alone in that saturn when it could carry 3 other people aren't you wasting fuel too? Way I figure it is you burn gas you're supporting oil imorts period. I also think that if you drive an all electric machine you are still supporting the arab oil industry. Since the batteries must be charged that power must come from some generating plant and what's to say it wasn't an oil fired plant that provided the power. And say I drive my 10 mpg truck 20 miles and burn 2 gallons of gas and you drive 114 miles and burn 3 gallons of gas didn't you support more terrorists than me that day?
I trust the American people to make the decision that is best for them. If someone wants and can afford a large vehicle more power to them. I'm not jealous of their success. (or their bills).
Continue doing whatever the hell you want. "Damn the consequences to myself, my neighbor, and my home. I can do whatever I want to and nobody can tell me otherwise. I don't care what happens to anybody else as long as I get what I want. If I want to be inefficient even though I know that's foolish, I'll do it. I am to lazy to care, anyways...and it's more important to be comfortable than accountable"-Anonymous American Citizen, circa 2003
