I have 99 superduty 4x4 and recently put 295 75 16 BFG All Terrains on it. Way better than the previous 265 Firestones. Ive been wondering if I need to get a 295 spare tire or if the 265 spare will be okay for a very temporary fix as long as im in 4x2 mode and if the spare is on the front and not the rear? Also, I once heard that the largest tire that will fit where the spare tire goes is a 285. What is everyone doing that runs 295s and up?
my 285 fits in the stock spare tire location, i think i have even heard that a 295 will fit but you might have to bend something a little(dont remember what). the 265 would be ok for a spare in the front in 4x2, but if you put it in the rear and have a limited slip, you could burn it up. i spent the extra $ to gat a matching spare because the majorty of the time i have had flats are when i was off road, and i want to be able to get back out
Would it be okay to run it in the rear since I dont have limited slip? Just wondering, I could always put the spare on the front then take a good front 295 and put it on the rear. Thanks again

if you have a standard open diff. it will be fine. you will just be lop sided
I put on a Drawtite Class IV hitch soon after I baught my 4X4 SD. The stock 265 barely and I mean barley fits. It is wedged in there. You have to keep giggling it to get it up or down. So my 285 spare is in the bed.
Since your rear is open you will be fine running a different tire temporarily. As for what will fit: I have a 315/75/16 on a factory wheel under my truck. It is tight, but fits. I also have the Banks Powerpack on it which has 3.5" pipe (same as a stroke).
