I received an estimated quote of $2000 plus parts to replace all the seals and gaskets on my 95 F-250 PSD motor. I am hoping to fix a leak from the main seal - front and back, and will have the rusted oil pan replaced. Is this estimate about right??? Or too much? Is it worth doing, or should I accept the leaks until I really need to replace the oil pan?
Are you talking about head gaskets too? If so, that's a good price. If not, it's still ok because the engine has to come out to replace the oil pan. Lot's of work to get that job done.
Has the oil pan rusted through yet, and, if not, have you considered refinishing it in the vehicle? There's a TSB on that, I just can't remember which one it is.
They said all gaskets and seals. But I did not have them spell it out on paper. The oil pan is flaking off but not rusted through yet. POR-15 may save it but I would rather just replace it. Definitely not a DIY job. No time, or all the tools it would take to do it. Wish I could!
I would be reluctant to have the cylinder heads removed and the gaskets replaced, unless there is a problem that requires it. If the heads are removed you might want to consider sending them out to a machine shop and have them checked.
