I have a 94 Explorer and just had the brakes disk pads replaced and new rotors put on. I started having intermittent ABS activation when making a variety of gradual to fast stops. The ABS would not lock up, but would make the brake pedal vibrate for brief moments. I had Midas bleed the brakes but the conditions is still there.
I have seen two other posts like this on this board, one by me about my friend's Explorer, and so far no other replies to them.
The symptom we are seeing is ABS activating, you can hear it and the pedal pulses, during stops when there is just no reason for it. He has also noted that during that time braking power is also greatly reduced. Letting up on the brake and reapplying it seems to work.
Though he has not done this, it was my opinion that if they (dealer) can not track down the cause of the failure he would be better off disabling the ABS entirely. My thoughts were that it was better to not have any ABS at all if it is not going to work when it is supposed to.
In his case there have been a number of things done and none have cured the issue (new rotors and pads all around, bleeding the brake lines, one ABS sensor replaced in the front of the truck... not sure which side).
was searching for more info on this same problem, what i was told from a (GM) mechanic is that there is a rust build up between the sensor and spindal, pulling the sensor ever so slightly out of ajustment??? the fix i am told is to pull the abs sesors and grind clean the rust re install.
try it out
