I have a 91 Explorer with 60k on it. Recently it started to idle high when put into park (about 2000-3000rpm) It doesnt happen all the time just intermittently. Any suggestions on where to look. I thought I saw something about this on Rangers a few years back, I thought it was the Mass Airflow Sensor, but i'm not sure. Thanks!
I thought I had a dirty Mass Air Flow Sensor. I read A Tech Bulletin that said when the sensor gets dirty It causes the engine to run lean at low speed. My explorer was Stalling all the time when It was Idling
It cost me $220 for the sensor and about 5 Minutes of time to change and the problem pretty much cleared up.
I wouldn't jump the gun on replacing the sensor. It is very expensive and I don't think it would cause the engine to run faster at an idle.
There is a procedure for cleaning the sensor but it is really just a thin wire and if you break it you will have to replace it
