theres a guy next door with a camaro with an LS1 in it. He says that you don't have to set initial timing. Just set it to 0 and the computer does the rest. I said you have to set the initial timing then the computer handles the advance. Hes running all msd ignition. Whos right?
You should be able to set it to 0 and the computer will set the timing automatically. If you have an aftermarket chip, you may have to set the initial timing.
I don't think an LS1 even has a distributor... there is no timing to set, it has individual coils for each plug.
But are we talking about an LS1 for sure? You're mixing a couple of GM engine nomenclatures -
Tuned Port Injection (TPI) - Common name for 80's-92 first gen multiport FI
LT1 - The next camaro and corvette engine, used distributor driven off of cam, made from approximately 92- 97
LS1 - All new small block, plastic intake manifold, coil-on-plug ignition, used from 97 up in vettes, 98 up in camaros
