im going to get a sandblaster from harbor freight, 20lbs pressurized, 6-25 working cfm, 60-125 working psi. there are two different size tips that can be bought for this blaster, a 9/64"(3.6mm) or a 1/8"(3.2mm). which would be best for play sand from lowes/home depot?
the air compressor is a sears 6 hp 30gal 8.6cfm@40psi 6.4cfm@90psi
If you sift the sand through a standard window screen mesh, the smaller size will work well and it will reduce the cfm of air needed from your compressor. Both, however, will require considerable air to operate properly.
I have both bags of sand, and I had to screen both of them. Too many little pebbles glog the nozzle. I am using the HF 40lb pressurized blaster.
I used the Sears compressor to sandblast a 66 Chevy Hood, inside and out.. compressor really worked hard, and I had to stop quite often to let it catch up. I have since bought a larger 60 gal, single stage compressor from Lowes/Cambell Hausfeld/Husky. HF sells the same one too.
